History
of Aikido of Richmond
Aikido of Richmond was founded
in 1990 by Shihan Steven Steele. Shihan Steele started
studying Aikido in 1980 under Sensei Roy Suenaka in
Charleston, South Carolina. After opening the Richmond
dojo, Shihan Steele continued to train under Sensei Suenaka
and was awarded the rank of Rokudan (6th degree Black Belt)
in Aikido by Sensei Suenaka
in 2002. |

In
2008, Shihan Steele retired to Thailand and transferred the Aikido of
Richmond dojo to several of his senior instructors. We all
thank Shihan Steele for his years of dedication to studying
and teaching the art of Aikido, and to giving the dojo
such a strong history.

On December 27th, 2011, Dr.
H.T. Hamada, International Chairman of the prestigious
Japanese martial arts organization, Dai Nippon Butoku Kai, bestowed
the organization name of Shinzui Kan Aikido on our
affiliated dojo in Jacksonville, Florida, which is led by Shihan
Perry Lambert (Godan), who
began
his study at Aikido of Richmond. Our dojo and the Forsyth, GA dojo are also part
of Shinzui Kan. Shinzui Kan means Hall of
Quintessence. This name was given to help create a new chapter to the unending
quest of reaching the quintessence of Aikido spirit.
